How Did the Patient Hear About Glengariff? Referred by the hospital

Details of experience:

Prior to one of our admission to Glengariff Rehabilitation Center, the patient had been hospitalized for a month due to a brain injury. During her hospital stay, she learned that she would require extensive Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) to regain her physical abilities. Her desire to become self-sufficient with minimal help led her to seek out the most trusted rehabilitation facility, where she could receive the best possible care and rehab services. After researching and consulting with medical professionals, the patient chose Glengariff, confident that her needs would be met and that she would receive the necessary care and support to achieve her rehabilitation goals.

When the patient was admitted to Glengariff, she suffered a brain injury resulting in muscle atrophy and wasting in multiple sites of her body, muscle weakness, unsteadiness on her feet, and decreased strength, which required exceptional therapy services. Her primary goal was to maximize her strength to become self-sufficient with minimal help.

Through comprehensive Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) sessions, the patient achieved all her OT/PT goals and significantly improved her physical abilities. Initially, she required support to stand, but she eventually developed a steady balance without any assistance. She also progressed from walking only 20 feet to managing 175 feet with step symmetry, continued steps, and functional speed while using a Rolade walker.

Her progress allowed her to become completely self-sufficient, and she now doesn’t require assistance with tasks such as dressing and bathing, compared to her arrival at GG. With the help of handrails, she can even walk up steps from 0 prior steps. According to one of our gracious patients, “Therapists who push you to progress make a huge difference” in terms of achieving rehabilitation goals. The “encouragement and support of the therapists at Glengariff played a significant role in my progress and overall success.” The patient also noted that “Positivity and motivation here is contagious” – and found the environment at Glengariff to be conducive to progress and success!

After the patient’s time at Glengariff, she was able to achieve her rehabilitation goals to return to her prior residence.
